having trouble finding vermiculite...... (seriously)
    #4518757 - 08/10/05 05:42 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

Ok, I might just be a complete idiot, but I went to a big Super Walmart, Lowes and two nurseries and none of them carry vermiculite.....

Is there something I am missing or what? Where is this crap!??!

Thanks!
Tokey

i dont know where you live, but do you have the store "fred meyer" around you? i called home depot, lowes, walmart and freddies today and they were the only ones carrying it.
you can also buy online but it's very expensive. if you want a couple links i can dig them up for you.

I went to lowes after not finding it anywere else and all they had was the fine kind, but it seems to work great. It's in a red bag and called sta green.

A lot of them won't carry it due to an isolated absteos scare a few years back. Look online. It's cheap and extremely light, so shipping is pretty inexpensive.

it seems some areas of the country are not carrying verm anymore. i don't understand why except for all the hype of it containing asbestos. which is total bs.
there are many places you can order it online at a decent price.
another option is to goto a building center and look for it as some kind of insulation, can't remember right now. :bongload:
peace

did you tell them the secret Shroomery password?

lolzz

---

try...Home Depot, Fred Meyers, hardware stores, more nurseries, maybe look in the phone book and call around rather than waste your gas.

It's hard to believe that Walmart, Lowes and two nurseries didn't have it bro.
Especially this time of year.

good luck to ya.

no not really rk, all of them stores in my area are not carrying it anymore due to this damn asbestos crap. they have all told me that it is carcinogenic and they will no longer stock vermiculite as an item in there stores.
lmfao, maybe i just wasn't using the secret shroomery password though.

Yeah only nurserys and lowes have it here, took me a while to find. I too am using the fine kind from lowes, works VERY well:) Try smaller places, most big stores may have pulled it but check the phonebook for smaller nurseries and flower shops im sure SOMeONE has it.

It seems that lowes and home depot always sell out at the beginning of summer and take their sweet ass time to order more.

Last summer I checked everywhere and just broke down and went to www.mycosupply.com and ordered some there

You cant find it at home depot or walmart hardly anywhere..lowes either. Garden shops are the only place worth looking. Impossible to find any good stuff around here, and tough to even find crappy fine verm. I order mine online:
http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=GMV6&eq=&Tp=

Thats a BIG bag...

at Home Depot here in Seattle.

It lasts a long time.

I found my verm. at Meijer...go figure but it was like 8 bucks for a bag (wasnt a huge bag or anything) But it doesnt seem to be "fine" vermiculite its very chunky but i do not know the difference considering this is the first bag i ever got. So maby you could look there?

The BETTER Verm is fairly chunky, with the larger particles being about pea sized & smaller. The chunky stuff, is less prone to compact & makes for more gas/air space in a substrate - or casing mix.
