WBS constituents
    #4518599 - 08/10/05 04:45 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

When i went to go purchase wbs, i noticed that many off them have around the same ingredients, but in different quantities. Like i found a 4 pound bag for 94 cents which is mostly milo (a kind of sorghum) then white millet, then sunflower seeds, then a little caco3. I've also found others that are mostly millet, and then some other seeds. Is there a preference when choosing a type of wbs or will they all generally work? also, some of the seeds were treated with potassium iodide, so would that either harm the myc or could it even be washed off?

they all work pretty well, try and get the one with the fewest sunflower seed as they dont tend to colonize as well and sometimes screw up water content

so, would it be smart to take out most of the sunflower seeds and leave a few, out of any of the brands of wbs?

i guess the general rule of thumb is remove the sunflower seeds as they tend to contaminate easily.i'm brand new to wbs too so i just bought the wild delight outdoor finchfood because it had no sunflower seeds. good luck!

hmmmm. i had read somthing on the shroomery awhile ago about the husks being nice for the myc, but if getting rid of them will help keep correct water balance and prevent contams, im probably going to do that.

Dont remove the sunflower seeds, but purchase a brand with few sunflower seeds. 5% or less add beneficial oils to the substrate, if properly sterilized, they wont contaminate.
