anyone recognize these?
    #4518496 - 08/10/05 04:19 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hello.

Found these on a recently sodded field in Northern Virginia, usa.

Prints are black (im printing todays finds now and hopefully will get a darker print than yesterday)
Gills are very very shallow and them desend the stalk slightly.
Some specimens showed slight blueing at base, all took on a purplish hue with time.

So does anyone know what these are?

Thanks

OK Please don't take what I say as a reason to chow down..

From what I have been told and from what I have seen first hand with My Subs and Foes here in Texas..

It looks like you have a mix of both Subs and Foes..
Some good photos also..

I see a couple pics that are as far as I know a True sign.. See the stem as it curls? The vertical grooves that run up the stem?
If they run straight its a Foe.. If they Curl and twist its a Sub..
Also look for the stem to be attached to the gills and for that section of stem to be swollen more so than the rest of the stem.. So like I said I see both...
Great photos and I'm sure someone else will throw there 2 cents in..
And please if I'm wrong don't blast me!

I switched my Mental Mistake Thanks "R"

If they truly are bruisng blue then you've probably got some active Pans.

Just thought I should clear this up, but when the stem has the vertical grooves its a foe, and the swirling twirling lines on it are the subb indicator.

The gills on these day things are so dame tiny I can't see how the could produce that many spores, but I keep trying, as you can see the maggots like then alot.

You seem to have a nice active species of Panaeolus. Who knows what they are. If I were you, I'd send a PM to Workman and see if he'd be interested at taking a look at the spores. It'd be nice to get another active species of Panaeolus avaliable for cultivation.
