Do rye berries work well with anything other than dung? Can you case with coir, verm, whatever?

Rye works just fine with all the standard non nutritive casings (50/50, coco, verm.)

If you're using dung, you're really adding another vegetative substrate (more food) even if it's used as a casing.

If you want to use rye & dung, I'd recommend using the compost as a bulk substrate, going from 1 jar worth of rye to 2-3 liters of sterilized or pasturized compost. Colonize it then fruit or case & fruit.
