(MUST READ THIS!) H2O2 Wayne'sTEK.
    #451438 - 11/08/01 07:25 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

Hi world wide shroomers!

Have you ever heard about the R.R. Wayne's tek : "Mushroom Cultivation with Hydrogen Peroxide"
(link: http://www.mycomasters.com/),

This site says: "There's no need to build a sterile laboratory, buy a special pressure cooker, or even construct a glove box. " with this tek.
Since I haven't buy this book:

1) Does it just consits in adding H2O2 to the substrate formula, and after inoculate with myceluim
tissu? (with honey tek since H2O2 doesn't kill myceluim)

2) I want to try this last procedure with coco fiber jar + H2O2 (without sterilization) + honey tek
inoculation. Somebody has ever try this, any comments or advice?

A new tek without sterilization could be a great benefit, imagine a world where we will no longer
be oppressed by the pressure cooker size.

Best regards

I recommend buying Wayne's books. They have all the recipes and concentrations etc. Not only that, I believe it is original research by Wayne so he deserves some cash!

The book explains the use of peroxide to make agar that is hard to contaminate and some substrates that don't need pressure cooking. They are essentially just carefully selected ingredients with peroxide added - you can't just add peroxide to uncooked grain or BRF as it will get broken down. You can also use it for agar-to-grain or grain-to-grain transfers by injecting a few cc into your jars.

Most of the relevant info is in various posts right here in the shroomery.

Well, coco-fibre is the food source... did i miss something?

coco fiber have all required nutriment for myceluim growth, right?

Anno i agree no way could mycelium get enought nutriens from striaght coco substrate. But what do you think about using it a substitute for verm. And in which situations do you think it would not work, coco/ryeflour, birdseed/coco
ryebery/coco.
I tryied some of these and noticed some strange colonization and a bad bitter smell while pressure cooking does coco have a high pH or somthing.?
thanks

Coco "peat" is sold as a better substitue for peat, since it has a neutral pH, better water retaining capacity, and is a renewable resource. It is a good verm. substitute, but in casings it can get crusty so it's better to mix it with a chunkier component (like vermiculite, in a 50/50 mix) fro proper drainage.

As a mixture with some nutrient component, it would probably be BETTER than vermiculite, because of its water holding properties.

Its a good method.. works for me. It may be a tad expensive, but the info in it is worth a bunch.

I should have mentioned that I too have had nothing but good results from Wayne's book and it's worth spending the $$.

A good trick is to do a multispore germination the old way, clone the biggest, healthiest specimens in the lot on peroxidated agar, and choose the strains that seem happiest with peroxide. I have noticed that some strains grow slower with peroxide than without, and that they don't display their true morphological traits very well. (Try alternating on regular agar once in awhile.)

While the tek does eliminate the need for much pressure cooking/sterile work, I think it useful to know sterile culture techniques, since you might need to fall back on them once in awhile.

The peroxi manual has some diecent methods, but I'll put it this way, I bought my flow hoods AFTER I purchased/read the peroxi manual. It's been around for quite awhile now, it's diecent info, but hasn't changed the way I cultivate much. The peroxidated agar and sometimes grain which are both still PC'd are the only methods I use, tried the straw pasteurization, and it didn't work so well, the 55 gal drum works much better.

Not to change the subject, but.
Slither:
**the 55 gal drum works much better.**
What is that? A tek?

No, 55 gal drum with a basket in it for pasteurizing straw/compost rather than the lime and/or peroxide methods.
