Other causes for hairy mushroom?
    #4515498 - 08/09/05 06:48 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Hi all, hypothetical question for the experts: if one were to think they had good humidity due to appearance of a supposed chamber (water running on sides, lots of condensation, etc.) but had myc growing on caps, could there be another reason? The supposed chamber would use perlite tek and ultrasonic humidifier for a "quick fix" after fanning. Oh, and the supposed chamber would have supposed ecuador casings at a supposed 73-75 degrees. Thanks!

Who cares? Theres absolutely no negative effect from it. In fact, they even look cooler.

So, the mycelium reaction to the humidity has little overall effect if the mushrooms continue to grow?

sorry to post after my post, and kind of change of the subject, but I forgot to ask: Gypsum is discussed often in literature but not in teks. Is there a reason it is so often excluded, or is it more of an item whose gains don't outweigh the effort and expense?

well the myc growing on the caps can be caused by a very high humidity, therefore one would assume that lowering supposed humidity might help with the supposed myc growing on the supposed caps. they can and will still supposedly grow. if there is water running down the sides of the tubs you may want to back off on the humidity some.

as far as the gypsum have never tried it but just recently read a little on its uses to help keep grains from sticking together. as well as adding some calcium and i think it was maybe sulfur to the substrate. could totally be wrong there though. i will have to go reread that again.

peace

Really... So am I confused by thinking that low humidity causes this, or can it be both?

No, you are confused. Fuzzy growth ANYWHERE..means HIGH humidity. Myc grows into water...and the water droplets become a good place to grow. Its like roots for the network, pulling in water.

The gypsum doesnt seem to do much..its a good thing to add, but I forget most of the time. Its cheap as hell because its such a small amount to add..I dont really notice a difference over all..
