So let me get this straight....

If i have a BUNCH of subsrate and inoculate it, then all of the substrate will colonize and produce alot of mushrooms? Why not just pack your PC full of substrate and PC, and then inoculate through the pressure releif valve, then just dumb out a huge ass chunk of substrate? can someone clarify?

because most PCs arent air tight, cant filter out contams and wastes from the
mycelium could cause corosion and other problems... plus it would take months to
colonize and you cant convieniently peek in and get a glimpse of the progress

any other questions?

Two reasons:

1. Impossible to maintain a proper water ratio without burning the substrate.

2. Impossible to determine when the substrate has fully colonized without opening the PC and introducing contaminants.

There are a lot of bulk teks in the Archives that approach the problem a little more effectively. Check them out.

Plus it would go anaerobic in the center.

I'll let someone smarter than me explain that.

Contamination is one of the biggest issues associated with cultivating mushrooms and until the mycelium have adequately colonized the substrate you have to do all you can to keep the contams out. That's why casings are sucessful; they myc are pretty mature and can resist contams well.

What you are describing is not that much different from using a mycobag. Instead of just filling up your PC, fill the bag and stuff it in your PC. Then inject, let it colonize, case and fruit.
