999 Foods Highest in Tryptophan

www.nutritiondata.com
Under "Free Nutrition Tools" -> "Nutrient Search Tool"
Show foods from all categories highest in tryptophan.
Spinach, apparently. Spinach.
< edit > - Now I am seeing that I was doing that by a caloric count, rather than weight. At the bottom of the search page, you can change it to show mg tryptophan / 100g. Much more efficient. Soy protein isolate, dried glucose-removed egg whites.

I look at tryptophan content in relation to total protein or total nitrogen rather than calories.

Of the most commonly used substrates, millet has the highest trytophan content - and it yields stronger cubies than other commonly used substrates.

millet a? well soy protein isolate comes in huge tubs at the health store. slightly pricey in my opinion. used by veggies and body builders. dont know which brand has the highest tryptophan content. any protein shake mix should be similar. can the mushies even use it? has anyone experimented?

Quinoa actually has a higher level of tryptophans than millet does.

Quinoa 1.1 grams not milligrams per 100g. Try that instead. Here is some info.

im sure qinoa would work, but its a bitch finding whole grain quinoa, and it being a supergrain makes it expensive as hell. not as easy as getting a 50lb bag of oats for a couple bucks.

When judging amino acid content from a nutritional standpoint, it is best to look at the amino acid as a percentage of total protein to get a more relevant picture as to the nutritional value of a food.
I looked at the link you provided and then searched for others for corroboration because the figures just didn't seem kosher. That site has the highest value of any, I don't know if it's reliable. It shows a tryptophan percentage that seems way out of line with other sources - 100 grams of Quinoa has about 13.1 grams of protein of which the site claims, 1.1 grams are tryptophan, or about 8.4%. This site shows it at 1.2% This site shows it at 1.0% This site shows it at 1.1% This site says 1.1% for hydroponic and 1.2% for field raised.
Yes, it's relatively high in tryptophan, but about 1/8th of what what that one source claims and lower than other grains such as barley (about 1.66%) and oats (about 1.38%).

Millet has about 1.08% tryptophan as a percentage of protein. I do not doubt your word that it yields stronger cubies, but my guess would be that there are other nutritional factors which improve the conversion of the tryptophan available.

Thanks for sharing, that's a really useful tool!
" 030 653 Soy meal, defatted, raw, crude protein basis (N x 6.25) 038 575 Soybeans, mature seeds, dry roasted 039 574.1 Meat extender 042 529.9 Soybeans, mature seeds, raw "
I don't even want to know what a "meat extender" is...
And apparently walrus oil is very high in calories. I'll have to remember to pass on walrus oil if ever I'm offered.

you guys should experiment with shell grill rich in calcium and minerals! Not only did my cakes with the shells colonize quicker, they also produced almost triple the yield, as for potency, well a wet ounce was intense but i couldn't say it was deffinetly stronger than other batches that were not grown whith shell grit in their substrate, but the yield is an obvious difference, the 2 strains i have been trying this with are golden teachers and matias romero and both have been the same, the shell grit cakes are showing triple the amount of mushrooms and in the end almost triple the amount of grams than the regular brf/vermiculite cakes! I'm interested to find results with shell grit casing because i have'nt tried that yet. And i'd love to hear your feedback

After researching some more, I see that you are correct in the overstated tryptophan levels. The protein levels that you quoted are off though. Quinoa has about 16g of protein per 100g, which is nearly double that of barley and slightly higher than oats. All in all I still believe quinoa to be far superior when you weigh in it's overall nutritional value. Shrooms can't grow off of tryptophan alone.
