Mushroom season is starting to kick in in Sweden. Here are some boletes I found earlier today.

Boletus edulis:

Leccinum versipelle:

Boletus sp. (perhaps B. pinophilus or B. edulis):

Suillus luteus:

I really need a jump course in Bolete identification. That is the one mushroom type I never pick cause I don't know what the fuck I am doing.
PORCINI MUSHROOMS! Sweet, the King of all boletus. Good work.

Actually all of them are edible, although some will taste bad and give you a sick stomach.
None are deadly.
Boletus Edulis is one of the best edible mushrooms in the world.

oh ya, and please don't go eating random boletus. I'd imagine days of pure stomach pain can not be too fun. which is why I've yet to mess with them. and because there seems to be a lack of information on edible boletus besides the 'king'. All others get the back shelf. Can't even find out which ones are good and which aren't.

That's actually incorrect. There are plenty of poisonous boletes. I've even heard of possible deaths from boletus satanus. Luckily, it is usually pretty easily to weed out the poisonous ones. As a rule of thumb, boletes with reddish tubes (the sponge) that stain blue within seconds are no good. Also, I think some suillis may cause gastric upset, but this can be remedied by removing the skin from the cap.

That reminds me, I made this recipe last year with Leccinum versipelle and it was damn tasty!

Baked Bolete Stuffed with Haggis

4 slices of bacon, chopped
1/2 small pepper, red or green chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
Small clove of garlic
1 haggis sausage or sausage meat of your choice

Wash the Boletes carefully, removing pores and stems.
Prepare the stuffing by frying the bacon with a dribble of oil or dripping if you?ve got it. Add the chopped pepper, onion and minced garlic and fry everything until brown and crisp, then add the meat of one haggis sausage (having carefully removed skin). Pile the mixture into the ceps and bake in a hot oven (220?C, 425?F, Mark 7) for about 15 minutes or until mushrooms feel soft when prodded.

Wow, fantastic pictures. Thanks for sharing. I want to make a thread about the boletes I found this summer, but the ids are tough, so that might have to wait until winter.
