Santa Fe police discover mushroom-laced caramels
Source: AP

SANTA FE -- Santa Fe police say someone is melting caramel candies and lacing them with ground-up hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Authorities say the caramels are then being repackaged and sold to drug users for ten dollars each.

Deputy Police Chief Eric Johnson says the altered candies are lumpy and have a greenish tint.

He declines to say where the candies have been found or who might be distributing them because police are conducting an active investigation.

Candies used, sold as drugs in S.F.

Some drug dealers are melting down caramel candies, adding ground-up psilocybin mushrooms and repackaging the sweets for sale, the Santa Fe Police Department says.

Police are trying ?to warn parents and to prevent children from coming into possession of this dangerous drug,? a news release states. An officer discovered that the targets of an undercover narcotics investigation were melting Werther?s Original Chewy Caramel candies and adding the mushrooms, the release states.

The candies ? which each contained about a gram of the hallucinogenic drug ? were then repackaged and sold for $10 each, the release states.

Once the candy is altered, it appears to have a lumpy texture and a greenish tint, said Santa Fe Deputy Police Chief Eric Johnson. He also said the drug dealers could be using other types of candy.

Anyone who comes into contact with the candies should notify police, the announcement states.

Santa Fe Fatal Candy

It looks like a piece of chewy caramel candy. But inside, it's a dangerous drug that could be fatal especially to children. Police in Santa Fe are concerned about the possibility that the "drug candy" which is made with hallucinogenic mushrooms is circulating around the Santa Fe area. Psilocybin mushrooms, and digital scales are common finds for Santa Fe police during drug busts. But candy? "That raised a red flag right there." A red flag because police realized the "worther's original chewy caramels" were laced with shrooms. They say each piece of confiscated candy contains a gram of psilocybin, a hallucinogenic drug that can alter people's minds. With a street value of ten bucks per candy piece police say the eight baggies they took are worth 15-hundred dollars. "It's a money making business for these drug dealers." They learned the drug dealers used coffee grinders to create their concoction. "They grind down the drug real fine, almost into a powder form, then what they do is get the candy and melt it down to liquid form, then they mix the two together." Creating this, a greenish replica, which police are told tastes exactly like the real candy. They say that's the real problem. "If a child were to get a hold of these and take several at one time it could be fatal." Police can't release a lot of details on the bust because they're still trying to figure out how widespread the problem is. But they say the bust happened at an apartment complex on the city's west-side. Parents we spoke to say they're just as concerned as police. "It just sort of blows me away, amazing what they'll come up with." "It's not only deadly it's just irresponsible, I don't know what its come to sometimes."

what a waste of good mushrooms, and a rip off. I can't stand people that put mushies into chocolate or other shit and try to sell them, you never know what amount is in them.

but yes....in this case, the carmel can be lethal because they are so delicious...heh you can get fat, and it can later cause a heart attack. heheh gotta love the news.

-I would never sell chocolate-laced shrooms for the risk of bad publicity like this

-and I would never buy chocolate-laced shrooms cuz its easy to get ripped off, short dosage or something else mixed in (datura, wouldnt that be fun?)
