how tall should the terrarium be?
I'm planning to build one with perlite at the bottom

I guess it kinda depends on what strain you're growing and with what kind of substrate. But the shorter the better. If your just growing P.Cubes my non-expert opinion would be to get something around 12" high. This give you 2" for perlite, 3-4" for your cakes or casings and then an additional 6" for a real tall shroom growing straight up from the highest point. Other strains can get much taller but I've never seen a P.Cube much over 5-6". If you can figure out the ideal height based on the estimated height of the strain your growing, having less space to maintain will help maintain a more stable environment. Large terrarium's become more difficult to maintain a constant environment.

I've only got 10 inches
I'm planning to put a heater on the top, so I wont need a dripshield

If it's the 'Z' strain, you'll need something at least 5 stories high.

LOL. Piss on the Z Strain. If you're going to grow Pan. Tropicalis, 12" is a good starting point. For Cubensis, 12" is just fine.

At the Temple our Sacred Chamber is only 11 inches tall, but it is quite wide, Most shrooms dont grow too tall, save a few exotics, and the taller it is, the harder it will be to maintain the humidity levels- 12 inches should work quite well
