A lot more electronica. Look at how the 00's are so much psychedelic than the 90's. Bands like Shpongle, Ozric Tentacles, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada are heard of by many, many more people are doing psychedelics.
I think I can sense a new acid wave coming in. I can see psychedelic influence everywhere I go, a lot of the stuff I watch is way to weird to have been made sober.

I hope to see more influence from nowadays classic rock bands. Maybe some Pink Floyd stuff. Space music. I hope that rap will be totally out of date.

I don't think this question is even answerable, and judging by the totally different answers from everyone I'd say I'm right.

It's going to be complete Pop music. End of that thought. With catchy tunes, dumb sound effects, and gay ass lyrics. It's all about the $

All rap/hip hop, metal like slipknot, mudvayne, and HED PE, and a lot of shitty altervative rock.

Mudvayne isn't rap/rock, if it is I fail to see how.
I own all of their cds, and they rock IMHO.

huh? those "bands" put out a bulk of their work and their most acclaimed work in the 90s
I doubt "many, many more people are doing psychedelics" today than in the 90s. Remember the raves of the 90s where thousands of people every weekend in every major city in the US would consume MDMA, LSD, and other psychedelics? The parties of today hardly even a fraction of the numbers and popularity of the ones that went down in the 90s.
anyone who says otherwise is a fool.

I think music is going to become more and more diverse and varied.
there will no "one sound" that defines the age like there used to be. there will be extremes - technological music and back-to-basics acoustic music. and a vast myriad of all sorts in between.
there will be new instruments in all realms. although there will probably be more new instruments in the techological music - due to innovation.
I believe the decentralization and DIY ethic that the internet brings will highly influence the music and music culture of the future.
I believe there will be alot of music available in the furture - 100x more than today and 1000x more than 40 years ago.

are you a musician yourself, hanky? (i don't mean spinning records - i mean composing original music). i've done a lot of fiddling with various electronic music programs, but found that i (and almost every other musician i know) would much prefer to play with live instruments. sure the computer is a great tool for altering the sound afterwards, but can't take the place of the energy/vibe of live music.
