perlite in substrate

I dont know if this method exists or anything but what would happen if you put perlite inside of your substrate to make it better aerated, that way perhaps it may colonize faster?

a cool breeze in summer,
snow in winter.
If your mind isn't clouded by unnecessary things,
this is the best season of your life."

It could work to make it more fluffy, but the more aerated a substrate is the easier it is to dry out, although minimal.

Vermaculite is a much better alternative because of its moisture retention capabilities (mushrooms ~90% water).Pearlite holds almost no water whatsoever, its puffed glass.
Fine chopped straw would prolly work better also, and has some nutes.
If you decide to use it, I would suggest sterilizing it first (microwave or PC)

Take care n be safe...

this has been done before but i don't recall seeing any results of the grows with perlite in the substrate.
as ultra said perlite doesn't hold water that well, it is wicked away from it rather quickly, so the better option would be vermiculite instead.

it works so well for increasing rh because of its wicking abilities, perlite has micropores on its surface that hold the water and allow it to evap rather easily. this is where some peeps go wrong with perlite, don't let it soak in water in the tub. soak the perlite, drain it off and then use it in the bottom of the tub. more surface area = higher rh.

Chunky verm works better, but if you only have fine verm, perlite can be added to the casing mix, or manure to make it fluffier..I do it myself when I run out of chunky verm.

"life is like a drop of rain getting closer and closer to falling into a lake, and then when you hit the lake there is no more rain drop, only the lake."

Growing with bags, start to finish (including my new grain and substrate prep)
Anyone looking to start bulk tubs/mono tubs/shotgun hybrids? Good tubs to use..
How I do grain (old still good tips)
Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay
