Bush and vacations

Vacationing Bush Poised to Set a Record
With Long Sojourn at Ranch, President on His Way to Surpassing Reagan's Total

President Bush's trip to Crawford is his longest stretch yet away from the White House, and, by historical standards, it is the longest presidential retreat in at least 36 years. The August getaway is Bush's 49th trip to his cherished ranch since taking office and Tuesday was the 319th day that Bush has spent, entirely or partially, in Crawford -- roughly 20 percent of his presidency to date, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS Radio reporter known for keeping better records of the president's travel than the White House itself.

whole story

Isn't it ironic that the man with the most important job on earth is the man who gets the most vacation time?  I don't get it.

In the world of the information age the President could go a whole year without stepping foot in Washington and not miss a beat.

You gotta wonder why representatives spend so much time in Washington as opposed to their home districts. They should let them vote electronically and keep them close to the people and the issues that they are supposed to represent. But this wouldn't allow time for all those dinners and weekend junkets paid for by lobbyists.

He probably needs this much time off to mourn the loss of our young boys and girls over in Iraq.

^^ Exactly ^^ It's not like the president is building widgets in a factory or anything. His job is basically one of assimilating information, making decisions on that information and giving orders. Where he does the job has no bearing on how well he does the job. I seldom (if ever) step foot in clients' facilities, but I can spend twelve hours a day or more doing work for them, sometimes even while laying in bed with my eyes closed trying to fall asleep I am addressing problems for a client. Although I think Bush is a terrible president, this issue is a non-starter.

Well he is at the head of the most powerful and influential nation, his decisions affect billions of people across the world, the responsibility he holds is pretty much bigger than that of any other man on this planet.

But its true that, as JC said, in this age of communication he can perform his tasks anywhere on earth. I just hope that he's actually going to bring some homework with him in Texas and not play golf and go bikeriding on his ranch all day...

Honestly, I'd be much more comfortable with Bush not working.

Michael Bolton. Anyone can teach, and while doctors take intelligence and training we still have an abundance of them and India can always send more.

There is only one Michael Bolton.
