I've been looking for a culture of this species for a long time. Interested in a trade?

I've heard it is a good shiitake/matsutake substitute but requires long cooking.

Falcon, Workman, I'll try to section it out and start grain, compost, or whatever. (It's supposedly a white rotter) since this is the first isolation who knows what's in that petri. the transfer looks good, but it would be best to see if this thing fruits, then I"ll know what it is, and I"ll make a couple extra plates (+ prints).

Sounds good, but I bet it will take many months to fruit. It is probably slow like shiitake but worse.

Hey mushrx1,

Does your culture grow quickly? What color is the mycellium?

Here's a couple of things I'd try.

I'd tranfer to  grain then lightly supplemented pine sawdust, then bury some of the sawdust blocks in a likely place once it's knitted together by mycellium. I wouldn't count on anything happening with compost, I might try a little on compost just to see what happens. Grain to straw for sure, I'd try.

If you don't have a place to sterilize sawdust, try the pine litter pellets
they are heat extruded and this cleans them up somewhat. Add your colonized
grain to some soaked pine sawdust pellet and pack it in bags. This only works with species
that colonize quickly. It's worth a try though.

This is what it looks like today. I'll try sawdust/chip block and some others. Thanks for the encouragement, I'm pretty well versed with wood decomposers and lab technique. I think I can figure it out, just might take some time.
:crazy2:

Oh, by the way that's MEA. the isolate started weakly, but gained vigor, you can almost see it's adaptation to a new substrate/ new metabolism. Mycelia is white, cottony not matted. No rhizomorphs or other organization at this point. grows densely ~2-3 mm/ day, leading edge is wispy aerial fluff

Here's some pictures of mushrx1'sNeolentinus ponderosus culture starting to fruit.

The substrate is animal bedding pine shavings mixed with 5% wheat bran and water till just a few drops fell when squeezed.
When I made the jars I packed the shaving in lightly and then stuck a pencil through the top of the shaving in the center of the jar and pushed it to the bottom of the jar to create an open channel for easy colonization.

Pretty much, very little distortion, it was shaving though, so they may be more likely to keep their shape than sawdust.

No finished fruits yet. I think they will be somewhat small and elongated from what they look like in nature. In pictures at Mykoweb they are more robust.

Thanks for the culture mushrx1, this made me happy .

Very strong culture,
when they were growing on the shavings in the jar they started slow and after about 5 weeks I didn't look at them for a few weeks. They were about 1/2 way colonized. When I did look they had start forming lumps that would form fruit bodies. On three out 5 jars they were stuck to the lids and I pulled them off when I openned them. The jar with fruits on it was stuck somewhat, but only a little bit of the shavings were pulled off with the lid.
