leaving substrate jars over x-mas break
    #450837 - 11/07/01 08:20 PM (22 years, 3 months ago)

alright...in a dorm here, and i don't have enough time to grow before i go back home for the holidays, so i was wondering -- i'll have from dec 13th to jan 18th, if i prepare the jars a day or two i leave in 1 pt jars, could i leave them in my dorm and have them colonized when i get back, or will that be too long?
thanx

it kinda depends on the strain. it most likely will be a bit longer than they need but they should be alright.

Keep them in complete darkness in a cool place. You should be fine.

they're golden teachers. Still alright? this'll be my first time growing, but i've read quite a bit...i was thinking since they're 1 pt jars they'd take longer to fully colonize. I was just concerned if i left them in the jars too long the mycelium would die or something.
thanx

leaving them in the jars a while after they colonize won't kill them. especially if they're 1 pinters, they shouldn't colonize much quicker than 2-3 weeks or so... leaving about a week in the jars fully colonized (maybe not even that). so that's fine. it'll make coming back to school that much more exciting!!

beautiful. I'm the kinda person that'll be all anxious for that 2-3 weeks, i'll want to look at em every 5 seconds, etc....this'll be perfect, though. Leave, forget about em, come back and they're done. Immediately start the fun part. Thanks a lot, you guys made my day
