Lucid Dreaming
    #4495661 - 08/04/05 02:51 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I had my first ever triggered lucid dream last night.

Its something I have been interested in for years, but have never managed to snap into one. Last night I was dreaming about being outside at my old college campus and I found myself totally naked. I knew were my clothes were but it was going to take an embarrassing walk across campus to get them. So I started kind of sneaking hoping no one would notice me and it occurred to me that the situation was totally preposterous.

So I did a "dream check." I do this occasionally when something happens that just seems a little off - I stare at my hands. I can't remember who recommended this - Castaneda maybe? Also, I occasionally try reading something or turning on lights, neither of which work while dreaming.

Anyway, sure enough, my hands don't stand up to scrutiny, they start melting away. And I knew immediately I was dreaming. I got so excited I woke myself up after about 30 seconds, which sucks, but I'm hoping its a sign of things to come.

did that once before, i was standin there talkin with my cousin (i had been meditating in a semiwake/sleep state for about an hour beforehand) and i realized i was in a dream, but as soon as i realized this it began to break up, so i tried to do the thing where you spin around and close your eyes, which helped, but merely slowed down the process of the dream breaking up, i think its going to take some practice.

good luck w/ur late night explorations

I use the spin too, but often have the same slow breakup you mention. There is some fear in me that won't let me become fully lucid.

The hand check is Castaneda and thats how I had my first triggered ones too. Welcome to a whole new world. Smoking pot helped me a lot to become regular, but I wouldnt do it every night. I did it almost every night for about a month and almost ended up in the hospital.

I was in a lucid dream once where I dreamt that I woke up several times and actually thought that I was awake untill I actually did wake up for real. It was kinda frightening.

I'm wondering...

Can someone please fill me in as to what Lucid Dreaming is?

I feel somewhat curious about what it could be.

Laymans defination: You fall asleep, and begin to dream. Somehow (several ways) you become aware that you are dreaming (with your normal consicous awareness) Yet you do not awaken and continue to dream. So you now have your normal awake conscious awareness with you in the dream. With practice you can then manipulate your dream in anyway you like. Like molding clay.

i have been trying lucid dreaming on and off for many years. It seems that with the use of pot, i remember less of my dreams which makes it harder to become lucid.. i realised that i lucid dream more in the morning when i wake up and fall back asleep

This is called the pre lucid state. I use to write my dreams down. One morning I wrote down a dream and then lay down again and in a few minutes became suspicious, looked at my writing pad and noticed it empty. So I wrote it down again, and the same thing happened eight times before I actually recorded the dream on paper.

Depends on the individual. It might take you a day or a year. It took me many months to start lucid dreaming. But I developed almost complete dream recall while waiting and so the time spent was like going to the movies plus, for free, every night. I learned so much just from that alone.

Lucid dreaming is consciously perceiving and recognizing that one is in a dream while one is sleeping, sometimes leading to control over the "dreamscape", or the faux-reality dream world within a dream.

"this is a lucid .. "

i read that link and i noticed sleep paralysis.. well, ive had that since i was a kid and a doctor even recognized it for me so its confirmed that i have it. is that a step close to lucid dreaming or something? ive had a few hallucinations during sleep paralysis (my most extreme one being when i was floating in the clouds at a high warp speed)

last night i attempted to view my hands before sleeping and kept thinking "look for my hands". my brain started feeling a lot of pressure on it.. i just let the pressure happen this time(its happened many times before i just forced the pressure off of me every time) and after 10 minutes the pressure got really intense.. my eyes were closed the entire time.. and i noticed i could see my hands not normal but i could see a darker dark, where my hands were moving and waving in the air (dont forget my eyes were closed the whole time). then i noticed the normal 2D darkness that i see when my eyes are closed turned into a huge 3D arena, i didnt see anything, i just noticed everything 3-dimensional and my brain had a lot of pressure on it.

i got out of it because i had too much realization that i was aware (it prevented me from entering lucid dreaming i assume)
