Portobello???
    #4506569 - 08/07/05 12:10 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Of all mushrooms I've seen being advertised on websites that sell spores, I've never seen a spore syringe or print for a BUTTON mushroom like a Portobello??

Any reasons? I think I'd like to try to grow some, but would need some spores first. Could I just go get some from a store and hope the spores are still active?

Anyone had any luck growing these??? What substrates to they prefer?

Thanks in advance.

generaly button mushrooms are immature agaricus bispora, they are incapable of
producing spores until they are older, portabello are also bispora but have been
bred for the color and flavor they currently have. your best bet is to get a
culture and start from that, once they are fruiting you can allow them to mature
and collect spores at will

Heh heh... Guess I didnt look hard enough.  First and only Spore Syringe I've ever purchased was from Sporeworks.  It did the trick too.

Tempretures in my house are ideal for Fruiting in the winter, but seeing how I'm a n00b, and the difficulty of cultivation being "difficult", I dont think I'm going to be attempting them anytime soon.

Thanks though.
