A very good friend of mine is here.
For various reasons(which I may explain when not sofucked up) I reallllllly want to get him to come back to NYC and enjoy the rest of the summer and eventually go to a normal(ironic that i am using this word) college.
Any ideas?

from what i have learned in life. You can't make anyone do anything. They either want to do it, or they dont.

yes, even though it was not necessary to be told.
heres the sitch:
this guy went from a lifestyle of getting drunk/high everyday, tripping all the time, getting more girls than any 5 other guys put together, and having a great time with his friends all the time to this lifestyle of isolation in the middle of the desert. No girls, no drugs, no nothing.
He's driving a tractor everyday on this fuckin farm.
check out the website

none of the above. this is some crazy ass prestigious 2 year college. 13 guys in each grade. 26 ppl in the whole school from around the world. You can go to any college you want after this place. This is like the smartest kid I know, 1600 on the SATs, mad good conversationalist and such. He knew it wasnt his type of thing, but the way he put it he felt like he couldnt pass up the oppurtunity.

Wow, I mean I understand wanting to get yer friend back to NYC...but did he always dream of going to Deep Springs or something? Because Deep Springs is pretty fucking phenomenal as a program...it's an experience I sometimes wish I had applied for, as much a once in a lifetime experience as any year in new york can be.
Does he really not enjoy it?

Have you considered that your friend might be happy where he is now...??

Yeah man Deep Springs really milks the mind and the muscles...a very small group gets accepted every year, too.

it was not his lifetime dream.
he decided to apply for the hell of it a few months ago.
since he actually got in, he couldnt pass it up.
this is a quote from a letter i just got from him:
"So it's like sitting on a moderately comfortable chair surrounded by hot loud danky metal in an 8-hour earthquake"
He's talking about the tractor he wakes up to drive everyday at 415am
I talk to thim alot, and he likes it, but, hes not sure.
Getting something done in life? I think in his opinion the revelations weve got through tripping aree what you might call getting somethign done in life.
What you were talking about tho, this kid couldve chosen from a bunch of very good universities at which he would have alot more fun, and learn alot more(they only have 3 classes!!! and they are all bullshit, no real deal stuff). And he is missing out on the greatest summer yet of our 18 years so far, for sure.
