Has anyone here experienced this? I just had a great run tonight and I swear I could feel it.

Yeah. Its the whole reason for Cross Country or endurance training for me. You are free, moving fast through the outdoors, being competitive, doing something wonderful for yourself, building memories, making records. Yum.
I love running!

Totally, man. Run like 8 or 10 kilometers and then you start to get it. Sort of like an orgasm...but a full body tired orgasm. It's the endorphins. You get high and happy and sort of tired/hurt for awhile but in a great body-buzz mood for a few hours.
Then you go drink whiskey and punch motherfuckers who be steppin' too hard.

I think i totally got that tonight. And if I didn't, and it was just placebo or whatever, then I still felt great. Now I just need some whisky

Yeah, I've gotten it quite a few times, especially when I run more than I usually do. It's definitely an interesting and great feeling.

Running is a good antidepressant. I ran the Long Beach International Marathon last year (actually just the half marathon). Running 13 miles around long beach all morning and then CRASHING on your couch is a better feeling than any drugs I've ever experienced.

I feel it. Usually only after long runs of 40-60 minutes.
It's cool when you're having a good day and your body gets into the rythum quickly (first 15 minutes). Then you spend the rest of the 30-40 minutes moving without thought and without pain. Speed up, never slow down. =D
Stretch afterwards, eat a nice meal, and take a shower. 2 hours of awesomeness.
I would talk about the high, but there's not much to say. You're clear headed like after meditating, but you also feel great like you just did a line of coke and you could do anything.

I have experienced "runners high" during a hard push towards a summit on a backpacking trip. I'll have many miles of uphill trail in front of me and a 50 pound pack on. I get into a rythym where my cardio is up but I can maintain the pace and then I stay there for several hours as I push up the trail. Its an amazing feeling.
Here is a stanza from a poem I wrote that kinda explains it for me...
I guess it is a feeling that is so hard to explain A joy, a thrill, a rush, a chill, and just a little pain To see that summit right in front but not let yourself stop Until those last deliberate steps...and then you're on the top And though your body's tired and worn and ready for a rest Your spirit and emotions soar, the feeling is the best Endorphins and adreanaline are coursing through your veins And over all a feeling of great satisfaction reigns I've never found that feeling in a sport or book or pill The only place I get it is from hiking up a hill

Thats just one stanza from a poem called "Up A Hill". I've posted the whole thing before. Search for it under my name and you'll probably find it.

I haven't run cross-country since high school. At first, of course, I hated it (I was really out of shape when I started), but once I got my lung capacity and endurance up to where I could actually make it through practices and meets without having to slow down and start walking, I loved the feeling I got from it.
Recent studies indicate that the runner's high may be the body releasing a natural cannabinoid, similar in effect to everybody's favorite cannabinoid, THC. So, in a very real sense, it is a "high." Who said there were no beneficial or therapeutic effects in cannabis? But I'll stop before I go off on a pro-medical marijuana rant!

Try biking 20 or more miles on hilly terrain. You'll experience the same effect.
