i would like to disable that blue menu permanately. after i click 'disable' on the bottom, the old menu works just fine. but when i refresh, it defaults back to that blue menu. i think we have enough navigational bars on the page, imo.

yeah, the menu is retarded.
yes, you can "disable" the menu but as soon as you clear your cookies (which, I think, many people do here for privacy's sake), it is re-enabled.
How about a permanent, non-cookie way to disable this?
Or how about just getting rid of it all together?

Give Y some more time to tinker with this new feature. The ability to disable the menu will of course be a foremost consideration, and with any luck we will find a way to make it work seemlessly.

When you right-click on a webpage, you know how you usually get the drop-down menu from your operating system displaying features such as "Back" or "Select All" or "Copy", "Paste", and "Properties" ? Well late last night (early this morning), Ythan was playing around with a custom drop-down menu that provides functions specific to this bulletin board instead of the general functions supplied by your OS. It seems that currently this feature has been disabled, but hopefully Ythan will be around sometime to remark in more detail.

Well if you guys universally hate it I'll get rid of it. Personally I think it's kind of cool and convenient. It's nice to be able to right-click on someone's name and send them a PM, and there's a lot more potential there that I haven't begun to exploit. I'm just trying to look ahead and make the site more like a responsive application than a passive document. But hey you can't argue with the users. You guys think I shouldn't bother pursuing this further?
BTW it only is enabled for the default stylesheet which is why some people aren't seeing it.
Peace,
-Y

Whoa, I just switched themes to check it out, if anything, it should be expanded to all the themes if possible IMO, I think it's pretty cool .

I'd just like to add that I think part of the reason people don't like this is that they aren't used to it yet. When you right-click like normal, it may seem annoying to have a popup appear in place of the standard options you were expecting. However, if you start using right-clicks as a tool to navigate the site it becomes a lot more convenient and intuitive. I'm as hardcore a web surfer as anyone, I use extensions and before that Proxomitron to customize my browsing experience and block attempts to unnecessarily fuck with it. Still, after using the context menu pretty extensively while I was getting it working, I now wouldn't want to be without it. Of course everyone has a different style of web browsing, I'm just wondering if maybe this deserves more of a chance.

I think if you want to keep it you should keep it in a special skin and stylesheet set just for it and keep the default without it.
I say as a web developer that this replacement of context menu is a Bad Thing (TM). In terms of UI design, overriding a user's client settings leads to end user confusion (as we have seen). The thing is, it's really nothing more than syntactic sugar and ends up reducing functionality for anyone that has a "modified" browser already (calling IE vanilla for the sake of this)... Besides, it sort of treads on the "more fancy client-side UI hacks than content" HTML HELL of the old days when javascript everything was the rage. While using a CSS menu may seem to increase interoperability, by limiting the number of supporting browsers to only recent ones and even limiting functionality in some, it seems it may actually be doing the reverse.
Who knows, though, there is a lot of power to be had in CSS, which is why I think you should seperate it to a special skin rather than the default.

From a software engineering perspective, this is totally and utterly a Bad Thing (TM)... Take a look at HydraIRC and you'll see what I mean. Make your context menu for yourself, not for everyone else. You're you, not everyone else! Is the user suggested to-do list that empty, or did a significant portion of users request this feature?
For me, using a tabbed browser (both graphical and console) is key and your context menu doesn't allow for tabbed browsing, removing the functionality of my tabbed browsing extensions which make this site (and every other site, I might add) much easier to navigate and use, as well as more efficient for me. That's why it's client-side.

I have two things to say about the right-click menu:
1. It does not support tabs. 2. There's a typo in the javascript dialog box for when you permanently disable the feature. I think it says "with" where it should say "will", or something like that.
Other than that, it's a cool feature. However, it does need improvements. For example, there should be a way to enable/disable it no matter which skin/stylesheet you are using. Maybe put this in the user's display preferences?
