Using water softener as desiccant

Ok I went out and bought some chemical grade water softener (99.95% pure salt)... will this work as a desiccant? And do I still have to bake it to get moisture out? I don't think there's any moisture in the pellets.

salt will absorb water... there are better alternatives like silica gel

if you dry salt , in a overn for 200 deg for a hr , it will do the job better than you think ^
