SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- A mother of three who injected a teenager with cocaine because he wanted to try it has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and 10 years of probation.
Shanna L. Holwager, of Shelbyville, was sentenced Friday in Shelby Superior Court on a charge of dealing cocaine.
She came under suspicion after she was hospitalized in March for a cocaine overdose. Police and child protection workers who inspected her home found cocaine, marijuana, hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia.
Authorities determined Holwager had injected a 17-year-old visitor with cocaine three times on the same night she overdosed.
"Holwager and the boy said that the teenager had never tried cocaine and wondered what it would be like. So Holwager injected him with cocaine three times that night," said Brad Landwerlen, chief deputy prosecutor of Shelby County.
Indiana law defines dealing as delivering a drug to another person, Landwerlen said.
Holwager's three children, ages 2 to 6, have been placed under state supervision.
