Suggest a good mountain bike
    #4504101 - 08/06/05 05:05 PM (12 years, 16 days ago)

I'm looking for a nice mountain bike to ride the bike trails around here to get some exercise and to get away from the world for awhile. I like the looks of this one, wallyworld. Is Mongoose a good brand?

Just because it looks good doesn't mean it is. Thats what places like walmart do. Even the schwinn bikes they carry arn't the greatest. If you want a good mountain bike find a bike shop.

More to the point, what's your price range? What type of riding do you want to be doing? What are your previous experiences with mountain biking?

Surlys are good, as well as Bridgestones.

Price range is up to $200. I'm just going to be riding on paved bike trails. I haven't ridden a bike in several years.

Sorry for not getting back to this earlier...

My suggestion for paved bike trails would be any rigid (no suspension whatsoever) bike, with preferably few speeds so that there's less stuff to break. For a bike that cheap getting anything "exotic" such as disc brakes, suspension, or self-lubricating midgets is going to make the bike noisy and give it more potential problems.

Cubie: Funny you should mention surly. I just ordered a 1x1 frame last week. Psyched.
