some questions about the psylocybin producers guide
    #4503335 - 08/06/05 08:32 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

first of all what is a good OTC source of potassium phosphate dibasic?

second would it be worthwhile to try a species other than p. cube? do cyanescens or tropicalis myceliums contain more psilocybin than p.cube or are only their mushrooms more potent? are they harder to liquid culture than p. cube?

mention is made of a saccharimeter. is this what the author is referring to? http://www.rudolphresearch.com/saccharimeter/index.htm
if so, that is one hell of an investment.
i did some research and found out that there is also an instrument called a saccharometer. this is more closely related to a hydrometer and is used in beer brewing mainly. something tells me it wont work though because testing for buoyancy to detect sugar content in a liquid medium full of mycelium probably wouldn't work.
so is harvesting 4 days after the culture has used up all the sugar absolutely key for success? is there any other way to tell when this has a occurred? perhaps there is a way to estimate about when to harvest without sacrificing yield too much?

Would adding blood meal or soy protein or some other source of tryptophan/nitrogen increase yields? would it mess up the culture medium?

and finally, the authors drying methods seem way off to me. 200 degree heat in the oven for drying?? does this discredit the whole document? will this even work?

There is very little magic to be obtained from mycelium. The fruits contain much more, and are extremely easy to get. Just follow the established teks. I'd disgregard that one.

you're right but if the figures in this guide are correct then this mycelium culture technique would actually be far, far more space efficient.

EDit: it'd also be much quicker and i think cheaper as well

But they arent correct, and I hate that guide, every now and then this question gets asked (every few days). Do a search for it and you will see that everyone will tell you it isnt worth it. It can be done with other species too, but those who have (even with azures, one of the most potent mushies) also said it wasnt worth it. Same with those who generated 5 gallons of liquid culture at a time.

Quit thinking so much and start listening  :tongue2: :whistling:
