New fan for me CPU, mate
    #4503696 - 08/06/05 01:53 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I'm nuking my HD drive today and making some major chages. I figure it would be a good day also to tweak out all the hardware.

My machine's biggest problem is overheating. I've got a fan right now over my PIIII. ASUS P4C800 Deluxe MB. The fan barely gets by, and it's loud as shit. It game with the processesor and have a big fat holographic IBM sticker on it.

I'm heading to Frye's today (like Best Buy, but bigger, many more computer parts to chose from) to try to fix this solution. Does anyone know of a descent fan that doesn't sound like a Jumbo 747? I might just check to see if they have a liquid cooling system.

If you just mean an actual fan, get a Panaflo 80, 92, or 120mm. They come in a couple speeds, but even the ultra high speed is still fairly low dba. If you mean a heatsink/fan combo then get a Thermalright XP-90 aluminum with a 92mm panaflo medium, high, or ultra high speed fan. Don't forget to get some Artic Silver 5 if you don't have any and you are getting a new heatsink.

Oh...and don't buy a watercooling kit, those things suck, are overpriced, and might only cool as well as the XP-90. If you want to go watercooling, build a custom set. goto http://www.dangerden.com they have everything you need togo watercooled.

This is the fan you want. It's the absolute best.

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=FAN-77ALCU&c=pw

It's a big fan so the noise it does emit is at a lower frequency so you hardly notice it. At the lowest setting you can't even tell it's on.

i like these:

but they are pretty hefty, sometimes too much so for verticaly mounted MBs, but they cool better than most so I have found...
