mushroom id cobb county georgia
    #4503249 - 08/06/05 08:42 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

habitat: mixed grass and weeds on the side of a highway in cobb county

gills: there were pores instead of gills, yellow in color

stem: about as thick as a thumb, solid

cap: as big as a hamburger bun, orangish brown spherical

sporeprint color: im not sure if i even got one, there are slight yellow remnants on the sheet of paper i used

bruising: i flicked the crap out of the stem and it bruised blue after about 5 minutes, the underside of the cap (the pores) turn a dark color very easily, the first one i got started to develop a blue spot where i touched it in about a minute

scent: smelled like the smell you guys describe a weilii to have, kinda cucumbery and metal

i googled mushrooms with pores instead of gills and i got boletus, i think that might be what we have here

i have some pictures on a cameraphone, but i am not quite sure how to get em off

thanks in advance

Im no expert at all but when i hear it has pores instead of gills i think boletus.
If i remember right, some boletus are edible, none active, and some are poisonous. Im sure with your description someone will be able to ID it for ya.
Maybe search google images and find some pics that look like it.

Boletus. Most are edible some of choice edibility. Some bruise [green] and some are poisonous. They are tricky to id. We have some experts here, for bolete you will need to know color combinations (I think that red or orange with yellow, bruising blue/green is poisonous, maybe even deadly) You will also need to take note of the time it takes to bruise (which you have).
None are psychoactive
To get the pics off your phone, I used to mail them to myself.

Some boletes are psychoactive. None grow in North America.
The mushroom you described could be a large number of boletes. What color(s) is the stem? How tall is it?
Cut the mushroom in half and note the texture of the stem and if the cap flesh turns blue (not the pores).
Many Boletes grow in Cobb co, and some are poisonous while others are delicious.

Could you elaborate? I've never heard of this.
