Picked up a COOL! hitchhiker

Living close to the Appalachian Trail gives me lots of opportunities to get hitchhikers. Usually I only pick up guys who look like they are really out hiking, a big pack, things like that. So I pick a guy up yesterday who told me he just fucked up his ankle and needed a ride about an hour down the road to where his friend was camping out. I told him I could and offered him a ride to my place for a hot shower before hand. HE gladly accepted. We get here and I check out his ankle and it's twisted really bad and swollen. We keep putting ice packs on it (smoking lots of pot and drinking beer, of course) and I convince him to stay at my house that night. We play cards until about 6 in the morning (another friend was staying over as well), then all passed out. He mowed the grass for me to day when I was out (yea, two days after I met the guy I let him stay in my house unsupervised'), raked my yard and did all sorts of shit. His leg is feeling better but hes staying here tonight again so we can party and so he can wash his clothes and shit.
This guy has stories of being in South America, at like, sustainable organic gardens working for his free stay, being a fisherman in Maine (his homestate) and a crab-fisher in Alaska. He said he's going to send me some free Maine lobster when he gets back. Tomorrow I'm taking him down the trail some, and when he gets done this section, I'm going to pick him up again and we are going to do a two day canoeing trip. Amazing how circumstance leads us to such interesting adventures.

i was reading a story the other day about some guy from Canada that was wondering down the highway and i think he had a chainsaw, sword, and some knifes. i bet his pack was big, you should have given him a ride. but he just had decapitated his neighbor thought.
no but for real thats really cool how that all worked out and how he "work" for the time he stayed at your house. this will be a cool story in a few years if you guys keep in touch.

Thats awesome man! It is sweet how things work out sometimes. A car ride turned into a full blown friendship.

Hah, most hitchhikers are pretty cool. His girlfriends father is a VERY popular TV political commentator figure, VERY popular. That guy got my new friend into libertarianism.

Dude. That is awesome that you had such a good experience with a hitchhiker. Probably what happens as a reward for your act of kindness even with the scary stories and cliches. Very cool. Hope the canoeing trip is fun.
