Is it okay to crush my cakes and put um in a container without a casing mix?

Is it okay if I simply crush my colonized cakes, put um on top of some moist vermiculite in a container and pop the container in my humidity tank... im kinda sick of the hassle of working my hands around all the cakes.

yes. You could just throw some moist verm on top and get more from your cake.

Well how should I crush them, in baggies? and should i put moist verm on the bottom or just the top... or both?
Also... just pop it in my humidity tank then?

You have allot of options, I would dunk in cold, clean water in the jar. Then take the cake out and pat dry with a small paper towel. After that I would put it in the zip lock bag crumble it wait 24 hours to let it recover then do the verm in your pan. Yes top and bottom.

1/2 inch on top and bottom, would be good.

I would do 2 per bag, if they are the same strain. I try not to put all my eggs in one basket.

would you get a higher yield using this vermiculite casing method?
