A couple random questions...
    #4500553 - 08/05/05 05:13 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I've been reading a whole lot... even teks I've got no interest in employing, just to gain the knowledge on the growing cycle and etc. These are a couple things that aren't clear to me at all, even after searching and reading just about everything I can get my hands on...

1. What is cloning (to agar? to LC?) and what's the accepted method?

2. I know that patching is something you do to a casing layer when pinning occurs, but what is it and what's the accepted method?

To anybody that could help me out, I very much appreciate it.

LC= Liquid culture. It is when you germinate the Mycelium in liquid/Karo and use that to inoculate your jars/bag etc. When you inoculate with LC you reduce colonizing time thus reducing Chance of contamination. You can easily colonize a full 1/2pint jar in less then 10 days with LC.

patching is not done when pinning occurs. Patching is done when you have put your casing layer on and you incubate. if you see some spots that are colonizing faster then the others then you patch those spots, so that you give the Mycelium a Chance to "catch up".You should fruit right after you patch.

I hope this was helpful.

Awesome, thanks so much. I'm working on a couple really cool projects for what's going to be my first of many grows (I had so many great ideas at the start, that I wanted to jump straight into it) and I'll post pictures and etc when I can. Thanks.

cloning uses tissue from a fruit body. I always used to use the stem. Id take a larger gauge syringe (18g works well) but up to 21g will work. Pull the plunger all the way back filling the syringe with air. Stick the needle through the stem all the way 2 or 3 times. inoculate the LC just like you would with spores, push the plunger hard to get the tissue out.

Happy Trails and GL to ya bro.

I had no idea you could clone them, using the stems.

Well, obviously...now, I know.
