Patching question (now with HQ pics)
    #4499697 - 08/05/05 01:47 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I patched my casing before I put it into the FC but now there's more myc poking up through...do I keep patching more on top or am I supposed to let the white show through?

I don't know the size of the growth on your casing but you could try a light scratch

I'll post pics the minute I can, but I'd say the growth is about 1/4 inch out of the pan. There's about 4 or 5 spots where this is occuring.

Ok here are some HQ pics of my setup:

This is my mini-terrarium, I'm trying to fruit one WBS cake lol.

A close-up of that cake.

Here's my aquarium with my casing inside of it.

Another view.

A close-up of my casing.

Here's the light I'm going to use now. It has a mercury infused bulb and my friend said it doesn't heat up the closet.

Another shot of the light.

So what do you think? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I'd pile moist verm on that cake, a thin layer (like double end case or dunk and roll style. I'd also use a gloved hand to move around that casing and get it more even. And I wouldnt use an HID fixture I dont think, not without further info. You want a blue light, not a yellow one, make sure it doesnt produce heat (it might not compared to HID fixtures, but compared to a flouro, NO heat), and make sure the bulb doesnt put of UV rays.

Ok so just scatter more verm on the casing to cover it up some? I guess I'll just stick to regular indirect sunlight and my room's light for the aquarium for now.

I lightly patched some moist verm onto the cake leaving little white showing. Then I changed gloves and scattered the verm over the myc a little more so you can only see a few white spots showing thru.

Sounds pretty good, keep the verm nice and moist. It will hold water well so keep it good and wet, you should be good to go.

Alright I'll do that. The humidity looks pretty good in both tank and terrarium because there are a lot of water droplets collecting on the sides of the tanks but not so much as to drip from the top. Plus when I put my hand in I can just feel all the moisture in the air.

Thats good, but even in high humidity, misting is still needed to keep the water going, both are needed IMO. Looks all healthy so far though, get some pics up tomorrow to see how their getting through.

Another question I have is about temp. My closet stays at least 84-86?. Will this be too hot to grow anything? I'm freezing a gallon jug of water now to see how that works but I don't know how else I can keep it cool in there.

It may hurt. I'm around there, probably a little lower...it takes a little more time and effort. Just try to keep the ac down, fan the closet as much as possible, keep the light off as little as possible (or dont use one), or frozen gallons sitting in front of a fan..whatever you can. Still should stop pin formation, you'll just need excellent fresh air exchange.

Man this is going to be a challenge. It's so hot outside it's not helping my room any. I have the house to myself this weekend so I'm going to leave my door open and have a fan blowing up the stairs hopefully bringing in some AC'ed air. Other than that it's going to be a bitch to start any pins in an 85? terrarium.
