Making over others in our image and likeness
    #4499263 - 08/05/05 09:37 AM (18 years, 7 months ago)

An ongoing theme on S&P and P&L appears to be to get others to be more like ourselves as if our view of the world is 100% correct. Carried out to an extreme, these analyzers would have the entire world be clones of themselves if possible, and what a boring, dead race of people we would become.

Enjoy and appreciate diversity!

If we were all born to like vanilla ice cream, tennis etc. etc. then there would be no continuation of summoning life force, we would all cease to exist.

Without contrast there would be no desire, so no expansion.

So are you saying this about the terrorists, murderers, and  mystical gurus too?

Nice conflation. Thought you detested baiting.

Diversity does not mean ALL actions are socially acceptable does it? Did you seriously believe I was abdicating all moral responsibility for one's actions?

It's an ongoing theme in all of human interaction. I really don't see it going away anytime soon. For good, or for bad. It's what we do, we try to get people to see our own perspective. Surely it gets done in some needlessly aggresive ways at times, like making bianary statements of fact. Really though, it's just an awkward way of seeking understanding.

Hopefully i'm not too unappreciative of diversity in defining people like that though. I'm just calling them as I see them. :P

My point is who decides what is acceptable morally? You often start these kind of posts with some referance to these people who do this.  Your posts seem no different to me. What gives?

Why just last week I started a thread about "those people who do that".

I start threads about issues that come up in my life during the course of a week. A quasi-friend of mine told me I "should be" more of this and less of that because that was how he perceived himself and it was the highest truth that he knew even while admitting he had more to learn. He also failed to find me humorous while many others do and wanted me to adopt his sense of humor as if that were the ultimate.

This was like saying "Stop here even though you are taking a different path up the mountain than I, and even though I am not yet at my goal."

See ya at the top!

You get to do it your way.  I think your friend also said that. (path with heart)  You asked about the humor. I just answered?  I gave you an opinion about following the rules agreed upon in the S&P formums. Whille we all fail at following these guidelines at times, if we make a habit of it, it's worth a reminder that it's not what we agreed upon.

See ya on the trail.

i think it's possible to accept a person with a need for control, and accept that they have this need for control, without having to give them the control they wish.

A person with a high opinion of himself is probably more likely to have this sort of behavior, so I do what I can to keep the world diverse.  Yeah, some folks call me a jerk, but reducing their self-esteems is my proactive way of looking out for society

what's the point of looking out for a society where everyone has low self-esteem?
