Jar with bag for fruiting?
    #4497031 - 08/04/05 11:19 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Anyone ever tried this before?

Grow the PF Tek in the half pint jar, then when its ready to fruit, put the cake in a larger jar (maybe a quart). Then instead of putting a lid on it, put a blastic baggie (the ziplock/sandwich type) over the top. This way the shrooms have a bigger space to grow.

My question would be do I have to add extra substrate to the new jar too, or just dump the cake in there?

Sorry for all the questions but since I won't start this till the first week of september I want to make sure I have everything right. So I am studying every angle of this.

If the bag is over the jar it will not allow for FAE (fresh air exchange) which is vital for gas exchange to grow.

But in the invitro grow (my current plan), how would the air circulate if the jars are shut tight since the beginning?

Sure but you get better results with FAE. I made a small fruiting chamber for a friend the inside was 8"x8"x10" and it held 3 half cakes nicely. So yeah anything will work as a friuting chamber

The jars have holes in them right?

Invitro provides little air exchange, so yields are poor, with the method your talking, results would be better. If you remove the bag 1-3 times a day and fan for like 5 seconds with a folder, it will be even better. You can also just leave it open air, or throw a CD case on top.
