So today was the 5th day, i waited to see if there were at least a little mycelim growth. I see NOTHIN, like...at all. Is this normal? i thought at 5 days you should see at least SOMETHING. I really wanted to see a little growth/pick out the contams before i leave on vacation. Any thoughts would be helpful!

You should normally see growth by then, but sometimes you dont for a number of reasons. Just be patient. The good news is, most molds would have shown up by now, if you contamed it with the syringe or during inoculations. They could still become contamed or have been sterilized poorly and get mold, and bacteria shows up anytime when things are to wet, but I wouldnt worry to much.

Yes depending on the freshness of the spores it can take up to 14 days or so for germination to occur. Remember patience is a virtue!

What's your incubation temperature? Try to keep it around 86 degrees, although lower than that is better than higher. So long as it hasn't been in the 90s-100s, they're most likely just slow to colonize.

I have been working with rye and rice for six months and now Im doing WBS because its cheap and easy, my first batch of jars didnt show any growth for over a week, now I can see it. This is what happend, the spores germinated in the middle of all my jars and not on the outside so I had to wait for the mycelium to poke through from the middle, you just have to have more patience, Ive heard of people on here waiting a month and they get growth, but to answer your question you will almost allways see growth in that time period.

thanks guys....yea...cuz i dont think i hardcore shot it to the side of the glass..but yea i was excited not to find any contams...yet (just so i dont jinx myself :-P )

My friend saw some after 10 days, just barely. He is pretty excited as he thought they were dead. Keep waiting.

Most of mine showed little spots of growth on the 5th day afyer 10 days or so, all were showing heavy growth, and im a newb so just wait man:)

my first bag colonized super fast, but my second one has not shown any growth and it has been 7 days. be patient i know it's not easy.
no sign of contams is a great sign.
