Help me understand...

Afriend of my lover was wondering why a casing would start colonizing and then abruptly stop, while a casing just recently introduced into the same terrarium is colonizing just fine. Is there such a thing as a sort of clearish/white mycilleum? I mean it sort of looks almost transparent. He's using the 50/50 plus casing tek. Also, should the top of the casing be completely colonized befoe fruiting is initiated?
