simple question that is probably out there already but i searched and didnt find anytihng except a vague post from anno that cubes and buttons grow on relatively the same substrate. anyway will cubies grow on composted substrates like what you would prepare for secondary decomposers

Well They both can grow on the same substrate but button mushrooms require a certain bacteria present in a casing layer to fruit if my memory serves me. Cubensis on the other hand do not. They are much more hardy, and easily cultivated than Agaricus brunnescens. So I guess if your question is more specifically do cubensis grow on piles of compost in which the actinomycetes have done their thing, then yes if it meets the nutritional needs of the particular mushroom you are growing. Cubensis can grow, and fruit, on all kinds of crazy things, even with no casing layer.. like bibles. It's assumable that any well made compost for a secondary decomposer might be fine for a cube. Why you got a bunch of commercial compost? :stoned:
If your looking for a compost recipe, there a bunch of great ones that I don't have links to but I am sure somebody else will

actually it would be an undercomposted pile that i would be stealing a little off the top of for a friend. the actinomycetes have not really taken hold and i dont think the ammonia production has really started (or it has finished and been metabolised).  just curious   i think you answered my question.
