Quit reading my mind!

I read that you can buy the oyster shells at pet stores where they sell birds. I also saw someone recommend just powdered calcium carbonate as well.
I am still learning all this stuff too, and deiding whether or not to do a casing on my first try.

Recommended to have a ph buffer when using peat based mixes but its not required. Ie if u havin trouble tryin to figure out then just forget about it, it wont matter for ya first few flushes which are the ones which will give ya the majority of ya crop.

Also you might be bit mixed up with the casing mix, it shouldnt have any or very little nuturients so its not going to determine the quaility of ya shrooms, this will be determined by what kind of substrate you used (ie BRF, poo etc...)plus the depth of ya casing substrate. The casin mix should only be there to provide moisture to the myc network.

Some good casing mixes are
100% Verm
50% verm 50% peat moss
60% verm %40 coir
i now use a %33 coir/verm/peatmoss in mine with no buffer, maybe a sprinkle of calc hydroxide for the fun of it.

And compost has nothing to do with it, so forget about the word compost, or anything containing nutes, when you do your casing.
