there was an interesting thing said by someone in x-files (forgot details)

He said this about truth:

three blind people find an elephant, one of them touches his tail and says: "it's a rope", the other one touches its leg, feels the texture and says: "it's a tree", the third one touches its trunk and says: "it's a snake"

I find that a good description of the human condition in our search for truth and knowledge.

This could be where the sharing of ideas, no matter how absurd, comes into play.

The three blinds could go to a unblind and tell him, what each of them has touched.
The unblind man tells them, that must have been an elephant. Even, if they never will get a real idea of what it is (only with endless questions to the seeing person), they will get the concept at least and don't are in danger, to run false on each ones own believe, at the end, perhaps killing themselves...
