Fanning vs. Air Pump
    #4491816 - 08/03/05 08:36 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

All right, so I have been reading about this fanning and air pump debate. When you say fanning (I realize how stupid this question is) do you just mean opening the lid and pointing a fan into it? If not, then what is fanning?
Second, what are some ways to introduce heat into the fruiting chamber? I mean I thought just a heating pad underneath set on low would work, but someone said the fire risk is too high. With the perlite on the bottom you couldn't use an aquarium heater, and a TiT wouldn't let enough light in, right?
Any help will be appredciated.

You don't need too much light in your terrarium, just an opening in the top. fanning requires taking the lid off and fanning with the lid every couple hours or so. not an actual fan.
hope this helps

you could use a fan if you wanted too. i use a combination of both methods. an air pump 24/7 in bottles with water and h2o2, and manually fan a few times a day (with the lid). no fan.

1st of all no heat in your fruiting chamber unless it drops into the low to mid 60's and even then you should be alright but yields will suffer quite a bit from the optimum 74-77F.
Now lifting the lid and using a small fan will work great (thats how I used to do it) you can also use the lid and fanning duration only need be 20 seconds or so longer and your just introducing unneccesary spore loads (contams)
BTW heat  (82-84F.) is only necessary during incubation.
You should really read as many teks as possible to get a general idea of whats what  GL and welcome

Oh yeah, I've been lurking around here for awhile, just gathering information and absorbing it all.

When I first read all of this, it was quite a bit to handle.  Now, its just getting easier and easier.

Good luck .
