First Time Grower's Question

Actually, I have two questions. I plan on making cakes out of vermiculite/brown rice flour, but there are a few things that I'm not too sure about. First, I read that you can sterilize using steam in a pot on the stove. Is this reliable enough or should I spend the money on a pressure cooker? Second question. I read a post where someone suggested an air pump for the fruiting chamber. Is this a neccessity? What purpose does an air pump serve? I would appreciate any help.

If you plan on getting into the hobby, buy a pressure cooker. It will be the best 100$ that you have ever spent towards your goal. If you just want to get a few shrooms and trip every now and then, maybe steaming will allow you to do that.
The air pump isn't necessary as long as you can fan the terrarium out a few times a day manually.

that is if you are doing the pf tek w/ brf. steaming is ok but if you are using any kind of grain, you MUST have a pc or you'll be blessed with contamination sucess.

you're better off buying a pressure cooker, if you want to start getting into grains you need it. It's a worthwhile purchase because you'll use it for a lot of things in this habby and it gives you peace of mind as well.

depending on what you are looking to get they can range from 35 to 500 bucks... i'd try ebay, but you could run into probs like lowrider guys is talking about. i'd still at least check it out.
