Shitty, I've seen a few shows there while in New York.

It's a relic.

how the hell can the operators of that club not OWN it outright? After 20+ years of shows? Looks like they should've einvested their money more wisely! The CBGB name is worth its weight in gold... why didn't they just buy the building?

You know what, CBGB's has an image, and a history yeah. But let me tell you firsthand, that they haven't been a good venue for years. It's been going down the shitter for a long time.

They owe so much back rent because they book the shittiest acts most nights of the week and barely take in enough customers to keep themselves open...compared with other venues that have opened and thrived in the last 10 years or so, CBGB's is really a shithole.

I'm not sad to see it go, as much as it's a part of the city's history, and rock and roll's history. Hell, Talking Heads, my favorite band of all time, started out there...a band I know really well is playing their last show there tonight actually.

Yeah, it's right nextdoor to the most crackhead infested rundown shelter in the neighborhood...the Bowery is fucking weird. It used to just be grody, now it's grody but there's trendy clubs popping up along it that all look really shitty. What other venues have you seen shows at here?

At CBGBs? Buncha unknown local bands. Nothing special at all.

I always hit up the local clubs/shows to get a feel of the city. Plus CBGBs has an incredible history. I love the Ramones and Blondie, and talking heads of course.

The shows were nothing great, the place looks like a piece of shit.

It's completely falling apart.

Everyone's always bitching because the Angelika, the indie/art film theatre in the west village, is closing down...but same deal, it's a shitty place to see movies, with shitty sound and shitty seating, and it was built over a busy subway station so you always hear and feel the trains...meanwhile like five avenues down the street they opened up the best theatre in the neighborhood and it shows the same movies.

But still...:bitch: just cuz of nostalgia

That's what I've heard too, from friends who checked the place out. A friend of mine walked in during the day once, and saw Hilly Kristal sitting there doing some paperwork, and got to talk to him for a bit.

The place has history, but when the only thing that's really left is the name there's no point in keeping it around.

Everything looks like it's on the brink of breaking.

Something I'm slightly confused about, from my experience those CBGB shirts seem to be pretty trendy, at least in Cali. Aren't they making decent bucks just from the shirts?

that's a shame.
Hilly and others
should be better promoters.
you'd think they'd do better than that.
CBGBs is world-known.
