i dunked, cakes turned blue
    #4488403 - 08/03/05 03:52 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

After reading several posts about dunking, I decided I would try it with 5 cakes I had fully colonized.  I dunked the cakes in the fridge for 12 hours in Tupperware containers (one of the ways i read on the boards).

When I pulled the cakes out of the water acouple mins ago, all the cakes had blue spots all over them.  The bluish colour wasn't on the outside, but as if the myc had changed color.  Is this normal with dunking?  Losing 5 cakes won't hurt me, I just need to know if they are contaminated, or if the blue color is normal and will disappear.

Thanx
:ooo:

The blueing is normal, it is bruising where you touched the cake. THe mushrooms and mycelium both bruise blue, most say this is a sign of active components. You are better off handling the cakes as little and gently as possible.
