computer problem (ouch)
    #4487729 - 08/03/05 01:13 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

ok so It's definately fucked this time.

so whenever windows starts, as soon as it logs into windows, before any other programs start, explorer crashes with some error, and then nothings running.

i tried re-installing win98 with the cd but it wont let me, it says "your computer is using some sort of disk-compression device? and may have an operating system still on it" and fails to load setup.

i have no idea how to fix this, can any1 help? ?!?!

reformat, and get a XP disk, leave 98 in the way side.

dude, i cant lose what i have on the drive. if i have to take it to the electronics store to get the data moved to another HD, i will. but if i can save what i have here thats even better. xp blows anyways, i got it on this laptop. i know 98 better than any other OS anyways.

Do you have another hard drive? If so, I would install the OS on that and use your bad drive as a slave and pull the files you need off of it, then reformat it.

It's funny how many people are so quick to say 'just reformat', funniest shit ever as if you don't have anything to lose.

I've had mucho computer crashes in my day, and I have NEVER ONCE had to reformat, I always fix it.

I always reformatted it when I was a newb. I always end up fixing it now though too, and it keeps getting easier. But I always forget exactly how I did it. What sucks now is that my opengl doesnt work for all my sick games (CS, tribes, etc)
