Can't I just fruit in the jar? :(

So I'm running very low on funds. I have 15 bucks for the rest of the week but the good thing is I have food enough to last me and my car is half full. After my monthly expenses I'm not left with much, but this is a hobby I really want to get into. Obviously I don't have the money for an elaborate set up as many of you have, and to start I'm thinking maybe I should only try and grow a few caps for myself and a friend for one night. There is no way I'm going to be able to get a large set up in here, because of money and space problems, so why can't I just fruit in the jar?!?! I'm thinking about mixing the materials, adding some honey water (I heard this was good), cooking the jar, and adding the spores. After that just letting it colomnize and then taping the jar all the way around with electrical tape so that no light gets in, and then opening the lid and letting it fruit out of there. Good idea? What about if I just put the damn thing in a shoe box lined with plasic and put some water in it and ignore? All help is appreciated.

There probably wont be any room in the jar for it to fruit...so I cant think that that would be the greatest idea.
If you know people that drink 2L's of coke or whatever, ask them to save them and give them to you. I hear that the 2L setup actually does work, and of course the good thing is in your case is that it is pretty much 100% free.
If you dont know what I am talking about, I think the PFtek guide has a setup to the 2L fruiting chamber.
That would be what I would go with.

I looked it up, it doesn't interest me. I don't want to keep my babies locked up tight in a jar, I just want to be able to open the lid and have them fruit from there or something. Or in a small place.

I like the mycobag idea. It fits your circumstances very well. Easy and affordable.

very nice scatman... are those regular pf jars? and did you remove the verm layer before fruiting or leave it there as a casing?

No, I never worked with the PF Tek. The first pictures are a small handfull of horse poo and 2 tablespoons of birdseed, the rest are all rye. I've done many jars like this, with grain and poo..I like to have a jar sitting on my bedstand fruiting while I sleep. A thin casing layer is applied, I didnt used to cover the sides, but now I cover sides with foil and tape. If I were to fruit PF Cakes right out of the jar, I'd probaly wrap up the sides in foil, and dump off the loose verm on top, making sure theres some verm left for a casing layer, or I'd add my own. Either way should work just fine..its just a simple casing without breaking up the jars.
I've done full quarts of grain, with a casing layer thrown on top too..fruits were quite large and many flushes off this, yield isnt optimum of course..

Ever feel like you're *almost* about to trip after inhaling spores all night?

I constantly feel the vibe of tripping in my room. My closet puts off an aura that my room absorbed...its a little hole that you pop into and its another world compared to the rest of the apartment with flashing lights, sparkly things, and moving pictures.
I think though, when my jar is fruiting, I do feel that trip onset more... As many mold spores as I have floating around the room, I've stored tyveked jars of grain in my room, and had one contam, with cubensis mycelium...I love my room, it feels so shroomy

I wouldnt say just as well, its not as good of a substrate as poo or rye, but it should do pretty well, as well as any cake.
