Star Trek: TNG
    #4485603 - 08/02/05 01:49 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

So who likes it? I'm a fan, but not a "treky" by anyone's standard. I've found it incredibly enjoyable in the past couple weeks to roast a bowl or two and watch them battle with space aliens and deflector malfunctions and all. It's great when they get into all the technobabble, i just sit there all roasted and try and comprehend what it means. The best part about it is the captain. I have a lot of respect for Stewart, and the fact that he did this show for so long with all his talents as an actor really says something.

Anyone agree? Spike TV has 3 of them on in a row during the day time... it rocks.

I'm obsessed. But I haven't watched it in a long time..

Whoever wants to buy me all the seasons on DVD, go ahead.

Hell yeah man! I'm a big TNG fan, but also not a "trekkie"!

I've got every episode of TNG from all 7 seasons on my computer

Stewart definitely played the best captain out of all the Star Trek series!!! The guy was perfect for the role of Jean Luc Picard.

One of my ex room-mates was a full on, hardcore trekkie....had the vulcan ears, the uniform, the enterprise badge, even a vulcan wig...He was wearing the whole outfit for halloween one year and found a chick that was in a vulcan outfit too.....he brought her home, fucked her...and made her keep the outfit on the whole time. (or so he says) I went to a Star trek convention with him once...and i can honestly say, I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time...so many nerds...too many jokes.
Everyone knows that all the cool kids are in to Vampires...

When I think "trekkie" I think of some dude dressed up as a Klingon at a Star Trek convention somewhere.

I have never been to a Star Trek convention, and have never worn a Klingon costume...so I can't consider myself a Trekkie :smirk:

"Uber-fan" is acceptible.

I loved the show. It was honestly, very well done.

As a kid I had they toys, it was cool. I haven't watched an episode in 5 years though. I wouldn't mind getting the DVDs if they weren't so expensive

Bah, I detest all the sophomoric dichotomy of "Star Wars vs Star Trek".

I've been hooked on Star Trek/Star Wars since I was the size of a midget. And I'm a tall man.

I think any genuine fan of such Sci-Fi will have respect for both masterpieces of cinema.
I have nothing against a simple preference leaning towards one or the other, of course.

Nowadays, the TNG re-runs that I get a kick out of seeing the most are usually ones involving the Borg and Q. Q had the perfect actor, IMHO.

I've always loved watching Deep Space Nine and Voyager as well.
Deep Space Nine was more like the "Soap Opera" of the Star Treks.
Voyager really pushed the boundaries of the "known-world" of Star Trek into a whole new dimension. And the hot borg chick Seven of Nine... :drooling:

The latest series, "Enterprise" hasn't gotten much of my attention as the other series, but that's more related to the business of my time and life that doesn't permit much couch-potatoism - which I'm actually glad for anyway.
But from what I've seen on these series, I think I have to say that this may have not been the brightest, best move by the Star Trek-creators behind the scenes.
The series is based in the timeline before the Original Star Trek & U.S.S. Enterprise existed. This implies that there is somewhat of a lower ceiling on the capacity for a lot of the action that makes Star Trek interesting, fun and unique to watch.

This analysis is especially supported by the fact that the show even broke/bent some "rules" - one that comes to mind is that the Enterprise came in contact with the Ferengi. Well, anyone who knows their TNG History, knows that the TNG-Enterprise is the first that ever came into contact with the Ferengi.

Oh, sure, you could twist it up to make believe that the "First" Enterprise simply never recorded the first-contact with a totally new race of aliens - which is so absurdly against StarFleet Federation protocol that it's a bit hard to swallow - on top of the other implication that the Ferengi themselves commited the same negligence - whether they're members of the StarFleet or not.

Not just simply glancing and walking past a totally foriegn race of extraterrestial beings, like you do with strangers on the streets, but actually communicating and interacting with these other beings from unknown worlds and not a single word gets out about it? Please!

But at least the show makes up for it somewhat, with T'pol. That's why every Star Trek series will always have at least one hot babe - to soften up the angry league of Elite-Nerds [read: StarTrek Fans] when they make such bloopers or mispronounce a name of a component in the warp-nacelles down in engineering.

I personally enjoyed watching Voyager the most. It's cool how an ordinary person can watch Star Trek and enjoy it so much. It's almost like the storyline and acting came first, then the "Star Trek universe" came second. But then again, the Trek universe is what made the story and acting so good!

Janeway vs. Picard?

Janeway -- She was a fuckin good actor. Captain too. Disobey her she would bitchslap you so fast!
