substrate ph question
    #4485342 - 08/02/05 02:52 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I was just curious as to why attention seems to be paid to casing mix pH but no one really mentions anything about the pH of substrates. Is there a published optimal range of pH for a substrate growing cubes?

Measure some run off from horse poo, then you tell me whatever that is and I say it is a good PH. =)

Impatient much? Try waiting more then 30 minutes for answer.

Cubie myc thrives at 7.5, generally peat is adjusted because the ph starts off quite low...a long term buffer in the substrate may or may not help. I just dont believe it effects the grow as much as a buffer from the area which the fruits come from..the casing colonizes fine and is colonized, but the casing may not pin if the pH drops to low..pins dont form directly on the substrate (usually) though.

Any new thought on this? Should we be adjusting our substrate to 7.0 - 7.5? I have not yet had the opportunity to test some substrate myself to see what its Ph is.
