question for keyboard players/electronic musicians

I'm trying to figure out what I should invest in and I'm basically noticing that the more interesting the sounds are the more these keyboards and sound modules cost (big suprise huh). But I'm looking at sample modules and seeing that they basically let you record sounds onto them and use them as voices.
So my question is why would a person pay $2,000 for a keyboard or sound module that has great sounds when they could pay $500 for a quality sampler with pitch division and $20 for a CD of sounds from that $2,000 synth and just record the ones you like into the sampler?? Is there something I'm missing?

if you buy the sample cd you are limited by the sounds on that cd. if you buy a synth, you are only limited by your knowledge of synthesis.

That's the gist of it. It takes a lot of practice to really get any good use out of a high end synth. They aren't toys for beginners at all.

mate - do your self a favour and just use a computer - all you need is a clean sample off any cd track of any sound and you can use it on a sequencer.
Since most musicians nowdays just sequence samples rather than pulling voices off a synthes using a midi, your wasting your money mate.
Ive done that with all my tracks and you can listen to a preview on www.angelfire.com/anime6/spiderofzen/
