BAGS (pic of a pinning cake)w/a contest!!!!!!
    #4482859 - 08/01/05 11:01 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Ok picture time...YAY!!!

These are the bags and some jars I Knocked up today.
Lots of variety, as you can see.

This is a pannelus stipticus syringe that was so overgrown it was completely clogged! Oh well, it just came with the bags anyway.

In all the confusion this one didn't get labeled. Looks like we'll be playing a round of guess that shroom when it fruits!

The edibles and novelties (pheonix & pink oysters, lions mane and the bioluminescent pannelus)left over from the party, they need jars.

This was my first attempt at a flour/verm. tek, it's dark rye flour and the myc. is forming a thick mat on top, but isn't penetrating...hmmm. any ideas what to do with this one?
Thanks for lookin' you guys rock! :headbanger:

Here's the cake I put on some compost a few days ago. It's from my second batch. The only one of six that made it. Look ok?
Oh, wait! I see an excuse to give away one of my extra prints! First one to tell me where the mycelium formation looks like a lamb, gets an unopened aussie print! Just decribe where it's at or copy it and circle it or something.
K...GO!

Technically, I've tried three batches so far and failed miserably. I just get so anxious and do the teks while I'm reading them. Bad move, cuz I wasted my pan cyan Thailand print. Hence, I figured I better try bags.
Well, I bought the bags and syringes at sporeworks. They weren't really a kit, just bags and syringes. They came with a good variety of edibles too, but for some reason I didn't use them....hmmm, so what went in the bags you ask... ok, there's Huatla, Golden Teacher, Chitwan, z strain and ecuador. I made the z strain syringe myself from an fsrc print , hope it works. I also have a nice little selection of prints that I haven't used, and more on the way.
As for the rye flour/verm jar, it is very dense and I don't think it will break up. It looks clean though, and there is decent aeration throughout. Maybe it will continue to colonize, but so far the mat on top just seems to be getting thicker.
Thanks for the kind words, did I miss anything?
Oh and I spent a total of $165 for the bags and syringes, and I wanna get more bags. They seem pretty cool.
Does anyone have an opinion about potency from these bags? They're grain based MycoBags from the works.

But of course!
What "lit," are you referring to. I didn't buy a "kit," but a ten pack of grain based bags and a few syringes, seperately. Still a good deal though, better than any kits I've seen for the $$$.

Also, I just remembered a WBS+Whole brown rice jar from my second batch that had colonized and I had put on a cozy little tub of compost to fruit. I just checked it and it's PINNING!!! YAY! I'll get some pics up as soon as I get back, gotta go outta town for a day or two. They're my first ever pins, probably won't be a huge harvest but hey it's better than making more garbage.
I'm so excited I could piss myself! (there should be a greamlin for that...lol)
None of this would have been possible without this site.

look some more, it's a thumbnail too, look closer. Most of the pins are on the small chunks that sit to the sides.

I know its a thumbnail and I looked closly..and did so again...I still dont see them. I see colonized grains showing through a bit and ariel hyphae, but no pins. I could be missing them if they're hard to see...

Hmmm. maybe I don't know what I'm talking about... very good chance of that. I guess the arial hyphae are the first signs of the myc gathering and reaching skyward? What the hell is a pin then, when it actually forms a cap? Sorry scatman, I didn't mean to seem cocky, I am very confused now and would appreciate a lesson. :ashamed:

No problem, you didnt sound like anything but curious and excited

I'll go to photoshop for a second...

This is aerial hyphae circled. Pins will form heads by the time they are that big. The start off as tiny white balls, primordia (knots), they look like little Nerds (the candy). Then they begin to elongate and the top starts to darken and caps form.

Note from a search using the google engine (primordia pictures):
http://www.google.com/custom?q=primordia...h=shroomery.org

The first link has many pictures including:
Primordia:
http://www.shroomery.org/images/23405/25544-Primordia.jpg

And pins (you can see the hyphae amongst the pins):
http://www.shroomery.org/images/23405/3712-Cake-pinning.jpg

Good luck

I think I see a goat, but I dont need any more prints lol..

So are they a sign of upcoming pins or do they form intensely if conditions are not right for pinning? I just have the WBS+BR rolled in and sitting on, some wet compost in a small tub covered with perforated press'n'seal. I was indeed very excited... now what? My bubble has been bursted-ed.

Make sure you give them fresh air. It is a sign of high humidity and healthiness, not really a sign of much else though. Sorry mang :frown:

Don't be sorry. Healthy is exactly what I wanted to hear. I've had a hard time finding a place in the open for them to get good FAE, but I now have them sitting well under an open window.
Also, the compost took on extra water when I took the tub outside in a rainstorm (under an awning, but they still got a little), for humidity (it's like 10-15%RH here lately), so that's probably it then?
Thanks Scatman, you've helped me re-inflate my bubble a little.
It sounds like the extra moisture in the compost won't hurt much, maybe even help with an extra flush, since grains don't dunk well.
whew! I'm gonna do this I swear, even if it kills me!
