Please Check my Tek
    #4473770 - 07/30/05 02:06 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

Hey all, I went supply shopping today, and think I have everything now, but would like you guys to comment on anything.  Im basically doing ryche hawks 50/50.  Can someone please....
1. Make sure I bought the right stuff
2. Make sure I am doing the right things
3. gimme any suggestions you have

ok, ill try to make it clear, here goes

1. I have 12 jars with 2 heat bombs all almost fully colonized

2. Take 15 cups of this verm

3. mix with 15 cups of this peat moss

4.  Add 4 1/2 cups of this crushed oyster shell

5. Finally add 1.2 cups hydrated lime

6. mix in 15 cups of water, mix, then drain excess water

now comes the part i kind of made up cuz i dont have a press cooker

7. load casing into these bags, seal tightly, and bake for 1 hour at 180f (tell me if my time, method is wrong)

7 1/2.  While baking pan, i will bake this also

8.  After casing is cooled, put 1/2" layer on bottom of disinfected foil pan

9.  In the ryche tek, it says to cut the cakes like a cucumber?  What does that mean, like pickle wedges or into discs?  Either way put about 1.5" of colonized brf cake on top of bottom layer.

10.  Finally, put more casing mix on the top (about an inch).

11.  Cover pan with tin foil, and poke a few hole in the top with a for.

12.  Put pan in a sealed incubator lined with perlite, with a temp of 84f.  Leave for a week.

13.  Check in a week.  If colonized, patch the parts where myc came to the top of the casing.

14.  After completely conlonized (about 2 weeks), drop temps, raise humidity, give light 12 hrs a day, and fan 3-4 times a day for air exchange.

15.  Wait for fruits, pick fruits, eat fruits, trip nuts.

K, this is very amateur, please give any advice you think will help.  You guys are the best, and this is a kick ass community.  I really appreciate your help .  Keep shroomin.

:mushroom2:  Sounds like you've got it covered.  there's an oven bag pasteurize tek in here for compost, but I think it'll work for casing mix as well.  "like a cucumber" means discs.  Good luck and have fun!!

:mushroom2:  If you're nervous about using hydrated lime, get some crushed oyster shell or you can even use chalk.  Hydrated lime can be used, tho.  :mushroom2:

Nothin wrong with Lime, it's exactly what the 50/50+ tek calls for.

I would ditch the bottom layer, it only invites contams. If your entire casing is mostly colonized substrate, it's pretty contam resistant.

Also I would use 2" of substrate, and .25" casing layer.

Hey , what's up ?

I haven't used Ryches 50/50 yet myself but have heard from others that the 1.2 cups hydrated lime may be a little too much. Be careful.

Also,

14. After completely conlonized (about 2 weeks), drop temps, raise humidity, give light 12 hrs a day, and fan 3-4 times a day for air exchange.

When you make a casing like you plan, after about 3 days it's ready for the fruiting chamber, not 2 weeks.

After 2 weeks your casing layer would be completely colonized and pretty much useless. Overlay.

Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony.
