help keep the process going
    #4479882 - 08/01/05 04:30 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

hello. i currently only have 1 pf shittake jar left and it has stalled at about 80%. Its been colonizing for a month and theres been no noticeable growth in the last week. im currently fruiting my other shittake cakes, and had planned on using this one to make mycellium syringes to inoculate more jars with. i was gonna follow one of the myc. syringe teks on the shroomery, but they require a fully colonized cake. does anyone have any advice on making a syringe from a partially colonized brf cake or any suggestions on what i should do. my backup plan is to of course make sporeprints from the cakes that are currently fruiting, but thats like a week away and id much rather inoculate more jars with myc than spores so i can get the process going again a little faster... please help

*bump* any tips on getting sterile mycellium into a syringe from 80% colonized brf cake? can i still use myc. syringe teks that require 100% coloniziation.
i dont think it stalled cause of any sort of contam, it just took a while to get to this point, and then it pissed a lot near the bottom, and stopped. the bottom of the cake look all dry and hard, so i highly doubt it will continue to grow. please someone help

I wouldn't recommend using a stalled cake as breeding stock, but if you must, it shouldn't be a problem if the cake isn't 100% colonized, but you may run into problems if some of the uncolonized material gets into your syringe... be extra careful during your transfer, and when you have your myc solution ready to use, inject only a few jars and wait to make sure the solution is viable before noccing up a whole bunch of jars...

BTW, are these plain BRF cakes, or did you add some sawdust or other additives?

thanks for the reply. they are strictly brf, verm, and water. on the teks ive read, the process is to shoot water into the jar and shake it all up and then draw it up. if i did this, im sure get some uncolonized substrate in the syringe...is it safe to kinda spoon a little bit of the colonized part off the top and put it in its own jar right away and then shake it with water, or would this transfer be too risky in the open air?
